1. Students must have a Bachelors degree or its equivalency. An equivalency consists of documented training beyond a high school degree that is equivalent in hours and requirements to a Bachelors Degree.

3. Students are encouraged to belong to an academic research library in the area in which they live.

Degree Requirements

Wisdom University allows students to choose either a Thesis Masters or a Non Thesis Masters.

A Thesis Masters in Wisdom Spirituality includes seven 5-day Intensives; or a combination of week-long and weekend intensives that must be completed within a period of 3 years from initiation of study, and a Thesis. Continuations for study beyond 3 years are possible in certain circumstances. Applications for Continuation must be submitted to the Registrar.

Each completed week-long Intensive is counted as 4 credits and each weekend intensive is counted as 2 credits, allowing students to earn up to 28 credits for attendance and active participation. Students receive 4 credits for a Masters Thesis. This brings the total to 32 credits that are required for the Masters degree Thesis Option.

qw7.jpgA Non Thesis Masters in Wisdom Spirituality includes eight 5-day Intensives; or a combination of week-long and weekend intensives that must be completed within a period of 3 years from initiation of study. Continuations for study beyond 3 years are possible in certain circumstances. Applications for Continuation must be submitted to the Registrar.

Each completed week-long Intensive is counted as 4 credits and each weekend intensive is counted as 2 credits, allowing students to earn up to 32 credits for attendance and active participation. This brings the total to 32 credits that are required for the Masters degree.

Students in the Combined Masters/Doctoral program would participate in the Non Thesis Masters program because their major writing project will be their Doctoral Dissertation.

Required Intensives

The following three seminars are required for the Masters in Wisdom Spirituality:

1. Wisdom and Civilization, taught annually

2. Any course designated as pertaining to Earth Wisdom and the Primordial Mind

3. Any course designated as pertaining to one of the Mystics or Specific Wisdom Traditions

The remaining elective seminars may be selected from the Schedule of Classes and may include any courses listed that may be of interest or consistent with the student's particular concentration.

Upon completion of the enrollment process, all Thesis Masters students are directed to work with the Director of Student Advising for general academic advice, advice concerning the selection of a thesis topic, and assistance in selecting the appropriate Major Advisor. Non Thesis Masters students will work with the Director of Student Advising for general academic advice during the course of their study.

Topic and Criteria for Writing a Masters Thesis

qw8.jpgA student may choose to write a Masters Thesis (research paper, minimum 50 pages, maximum 100) or Project (an experiential, work-oriented project, or creative art work) with written documentation. This thesis will be developed with the advice and under the supervision of the Major Advisor. All theses must meet the following three criteria:

1. Each thesis must demonstrate graduate level competency in writing and knowledge. Theses may be focused on research, a creative project, teaching project, or other projects that clearly demonstrate the student's creative capacities. The topic of the Master's thesis must be developed and have the approval of the Major Advisor.

2. All dissertations without exception must follow the APA (American Psychological Association) style of writing. This format allows for uniformity in university dissertations and provides a common standard to which all students must adhere in preparing their dissertations. If the APA style is not followed, the dissertation will not be admitted.

3. Demonstration of Subject/Object Synthesis. At most universities, the requirement for papers is exclusively for objective, dispassionate analysis and research. At Wisdom University, we turn this on its head and require both a rigorous demonstration that the student understands the content of the course or thesis project, and can use footnotes, bibliographies, proper formatting, etc. as well as demonstrate an equally rigorous insight into his or her interior journey as a result of learning the content at hand. In our view, it is the capacity to combine an objective grasp of the material under consideration and also engage in the introspective work of discerning how the material is actually affecting one's inner life and soul growth that is a mark of wisdom.

Passage of the Masters Thesis

Once a thesis has been completed to the satisfaction of the Major Advisor, it is submitted to the Vice President for Academic Affairs for final evaluation. The Vice President for Academic Affairs has the discretion to require further writing, modifications or research to ensure that the particular thesis conforms to Wisdom University standards of excellence.

Graduation Requirements for a Masters Degree

1. Student's fees and all financial obligations to Wisdom University must be fully paid, and completion of all requirements for the degree must be met by the first week of February of the graduating year.

2. Students must have their thesis approved by the Vice President for Academic Affairs by March 1 of the graduating year.

3. A completed bound thesis, required for the Wisdom University library, must be submitted to Wisdom University by May 1 of the graduating year.
